Assignment 26.1 Theory of Films
The directors that I will be choosing is Steven spiel-berg and Robert alt-man. I will also be discussing and analysing two different theories and films. The reason why Steven spiel berg is considered a auteur is because of how recognisable his films have been which is also due to many unique marks. Another reason why that he could be seen as a auteur is because of his artistic contribution to the films he has made in the past years. An example of the films which he created was Jurassic park. I will now be talking about the casting which was used in this film such as the actors who took part and played a particular role one of the actors which was in this film is called Jeffrey Lynn Goldblumborn who was born on October 22 1952. The role he played in the film was chaotcain. another actor that took part in this film was Sam Neill who was born on born 14 September 1947 the role he played was the palaeontologist. Another actor which took part in Jurassic park was Laura Der this person was born February 10 1967 and played the role was to be Ellie Sattler this was because she was a very good and honest actor. The final character I will be discussing is Robert Muldoon who played the role of Bob Peck who was killed by a velociraptor during the film with his death going unseen he was born on 25 September 1921 and died in 1992.
The techniques which were used in the film such as the camera editing. An example of this could be a close up camera angle this was used to bring the audience closer to the main characters in the movie. An example of this could be when the T-Rex which is the main villain comes up close and face to face with the boy and the girl which builds up a terrifying affect which is to scare the audience with excitement and not to a actually make the audience feel terrified. Another type of camera editing was how the movements of the dinosaurs such the t-rex and the other dinosaurs and the tress were done accurately which made the film look more realistic and more interesting for people to watch. The final use of camera editing was the use of actions the way this was done is by allowing the audience to move in different angles from the left to the right also back and front such as when the dinosaur was chasing after Tim and Lex Murphy during the film.
The use of lighting I will be discussing is the dark setting which was used at night time which made the part of the scene were the T-rex attacks stand out. Another reason is that the t-rex also blends in with colour which made it more difficult for the audience to notice it until it began to move. Also the use of lights were able to show audience the full characteristics of the dinosaurs. The types of sound that was used in Jurassic park was the sound of the t-rex roaring. This creates tension for the audience from the way the T-rex is made to look realistic also by roaring which makes the audience feel scared. Also the lack of music in the film makes most of the scenes sound less of a film because there is no sound in the background which would make a the film more exciting to watch. Because the audience are not just only enjoying the action of the characters performing but they can be enjoying the music which can go well with parts of the scenes in the film. An example of this could be when someone dies there could be music playing in the background with a really slow pitch. A example to back up my point is when Laura Dern was brutally killed by one of the escaped dinosaurs which was presented off screen which had sad music in the background to show the audience that something bad or disturbing has taken place.
The second director I have chosen is Andrea Arnold who is known to be a film maker. I will be discussing the theories and films which she has created while being a film maker. The reason why she is considered a film maker is because of how much hard work she produced in screen writer which won her a award back in 2004 which made her become very popular. An example of the films which she made is fish tank I will discussing the techniques and different codes and conventions which create meaning for the audience such as the use of camera angle and the lighting which were used in the film also how they made an effect in the film. The first technique which was used was the use of sound which is used to create tension an example were this took place during the film is when the sound of the train begins to pull over as Conner one the characters in the film was screeching to a halt which creates tension for audience because the audience might feel nervous that something bad is going to happen however this could also create excitement. Another technique which was used is the use of colour which were dark colours such as black which is to indicate that something bad or serious is about to happen. A example of were this took place in the film was when Mia hears her mum and Connor from a different room and stop watching her recording so she could investigate the situation.
This is an example of a two shot camera angle which was used in the movie fish tank. The reason why this angle was used was to make a more interesting affect for the audience by adding in a picture which involves more than one character. Another reason why this was used is to make the audience feel worried or sad because of how these two people are sitting alone in a room on the floor with sad looking faces. Which is to let the audience know that something sad has happened or something sad is about to happen.
This is an example of mid camera angle shot where sam is trying to use a flare to attract the attention of the dinosaur to stop it from hurting the kids in the car. This shot can also make the dinosaur much more superior that any other character in this part of the film because it is making an attempt to kill the kids inside of the car. Which shows that the character holding the flare has to try and lure the dinosaur away to prevent the kids in the car from getting injured or wiped out. The effect this has on the audience is a sign of fear because they do not want to see innocent young people being torn apart by a creature which no longer exists in todays world. This can also make the audience feel worried because they do not know if sam will be able to protect himself and the kids from the dinosaur.
This image shows a two shot camera angle of the two characters looking directly at the dinosaur. This image was used to create fear for the audience because they have no idea what is going to happen which makes anybody watching this part of the film feel scared. Also the use of darkness in the background and rain indicates something bad is going to happen.
conclusion
Overall in my opinion I believe that the directors in jurassic park used high quality techniques the use of lighting was used very effectively in different scenes of the film mostly when the t-rex was attacking which was a successful way of being able to create tension for the scene. Another way Jurassic park were able to use techniques effectively is by adding a good use of sound which made the film more exciting and enjoyable to watch. The directors in fish tank were able to use good types of techniques and also images such as the sound of the train screeching while coming to a halt which was a very good sound affect because it makes the film sound more realistic like what the audience is watching is actually happening instead of the audience having to use there own imagination. The use of a two shot camera helped the movie to be more interesting and possibly more complicated for the people watch the film instead of only having one person seen on camera for the entire movie. My second opinion is that both directors were able to complete a very difficult challenge by being to make films look realstic and create different types of emotions and feelings for all those who watch these films because not many directors are cable of creating movies which come to life.

The casting I will be discussing is the use of actors who took part in the film also the roles which they played. The first actor is Jason Maza who is known as a English producer and is aged 31and was born on 24 April 1987 the role that he played in fish tank was Billy's brother. Another actor was Michael Fassbinder who was born on 2 April in Heidelberg Germany in 1977 who is aged 41. The role which he played was Connor the main character. The final actor is Harry Tread-away who was born on the 10 September 1984 which is 34 years of age the role he played was billy who had a brother.

The types of sound which was used in this film was in this film was when the sound of breathing which shows someone becoming frustrated also when the car brakes screeching to a halt at a great speed, which suggests to the audience that the driver is angry. another use of sound that was used in this movie was the when the train was pulling over the reason why this can have an effect on the audience is because it is a very painful sound. The final use of sound which was used in this film was the use non diegetic music playing in the background which was to help the film be able to stand out. instead of playing ordinary music which will not make the audience feel a certain type of way such as tension or excitement and happiness.
